Diabetes
The Numbers Highlight the Need
We are raising global awareness of the need for research, programs, and initiatives related to diabetes. Our goal is for our actions, commitment, and generosity to help reduce these statistics in the future.
- More than 422 million people are living with diabetes.¹
- Diabetes is responsible for more than 5 million deaths each year.
- Diabetes is the 8th leading cause of death worldwide.
- Only one in three low-income regions reports having the technology needed to diagnose and manage diabetes.²
Lions around the world have voted to make diabetes one of their primary service causes for the future. Once that decision was made, Lions immediately got to work raising public awareness about the risks associated with diabetes.
Through our service projects and programs, we strive to improve the lives of people living with diabetes and help curb the global epidemic of type 2 diabetes.
